Cavitation Technology for Fuel Homogenization and Emission Optimization

RAPTECH’s innovative approach harnesses the power of controlled cavitation to redefine how heavy fuel oil and alternative fuels are processed, unlocking new opportunities for cleaner combustion, stable emulsions, and measurable economic savings. The following highlights showcase recent breakthroughs and their potential impact on both operational performance and the transition tolow-carbon fuels.

  • Controlled Cavitation for Stable Fuel Emulsions
The strength of RAPTECH technology is in utilizing the effects of controlled cavitation to process the fuel oil in order to homogenize as well as produce extremely stable emulsions using fuel alternatives with variable densities and viscosities by thermo mechanically shearing the medium to produce fine toultrafine dispersions having particle size between 2-15 µm.

  • Improved Fuel Properties and Combustion Quality
In the effort, to use sustainable alternatives with Heavy Fuel Oil to produce ISO8217:2024 compliant fuels, yielded great results with regards to reduction inthe kinematic viscosity, pourpoint, increased calorific value, carbon, ashresidues, which has a great impact on quality of combustion, homogenizationand also handling the fuel in general. A noteworthy point to mention is the reduction of pre-heating temperature required for combustion.

  • Engine Testing of HFO-FAME Blends
Although, the results of Total Sediment, size profile of the homogenous mixture etc. can already give us an understanding about the quality of combustion, in order to further validate, a HFO-FAME blend produced using our technology is being tested and evaluated for its performance in terms of exhaust emissions and fuel consumption in a four-stroke marine diesel engine application compared to a conventionally produced HFO-FAME blend. For these tests, FVTR GmbH is providing a full engine Caterpillar MaK 6M20 test bench.

  • Estimated 6% Fuel Economy Gain
An increasein fuel economy of at least 6% is estimated considering all the above factorswhich goes on a long way for the economic savings, specifically, in fuel consumption, CII compliance etc.

  • UADA Technology for Low-Carbon Fuels
In addition, Ultrasonic Acoustic Flow Aggregate (UADA) technology can complement your research into low-carbon and carbon-free fuels such as methanol, ethanol, ammonia, and hydrogen. For example, cavitation can produce micro/nanoemulsification and intense mixing to form stable mixtures (e.g., alcohol-dieselpilot fuels, NH₃-H₂ mixtures), thereby improving homogeneity and stability perengine cycle.
